From a $50 Card Pack Into a $100K Windfall
A lucky collector has scored a Bitcoin redemption card worth over $100,000 from a $50 pack of Cardsmiths trading cards. The prize, redeemable for 1 full Bitcoin (BTC), was pulled from the 2024 Holiday Currency Set, a festive and crypto-themed collection by Cardsmiths. At its peak in January, the Bitcoin prize was valued as high as $108,786, according to market prices.
A Rare Find in a Holiday-Themed Set
The 2024 Holiday Currency Set featured a mix of festive and crypto-inspired cards, including playful designs like the Gingerbread Man and Charles Dickens, along with crypto redemption cards.
Bitcoin redemption cards like this are extremely rare, appearing in approximately 1 out of every 96 packs.“This most recent discovery from our Currency Holiday 2024 Trading Card series just shows that any pack pull has the potential to become a once-in-a-lifetime experience,” said Cardsmiths owner Steve Loney.
Not the First Bitcoin Score from Cardsmiths Packs
While this win is among the largest ever, it’s not the first major Bitcoin redemption from a Cardsmiths pack:
- 2023: A collector pulled a full Bitcoin from a $33 pack purchased at GameStop.
- March 2024: Another full Bitcoin card was found in a GameStop pack in Texas.
Tonyk, Cardsmiths’ parent company, initially confirmed that five Bitcoin redemption cards were produced for the first series. So far, three full Bitcoin cards have been publicly reported from Cardsmiths sets.
