FIFA and blockchain gaming studio Mythical Games are set to launch FIFA Rivals, a free-to-play soccer game for iOS and Android, in the summer of 2025.
Real-Time Soccer Meets Web3
FIFA Rivals allows players to build and manage soccer squads, competing in real-time arcade-style gameplay. Mythical Games CEO John Linden predicts the game could draw over 100 million players, a significant leap from the company’s previous hit, NFL Rivals, which attracted 6 million players.
The massive global reach of FIFA, highlighted by the 5 billion viewers of the 2022 World Cup, dwarfs the 500 million who tuned into NFL playoffs, giving FIFA Rivals an edge in capturing a broad audience.
Blockchain-Driven Gameplay
The game will run on the Mythos blockchain, supported by the Polkadot network. This integration enables players to own and monetize in-game assets, enhancing engagement through a play-to-earn economy.
The launch reflects a broader trend of sports organizations collaborating with blockchain developers to provide immersive, interactive fan experiences.
Mythical Games’ Growing Impact
Mythical’s success with games like Blankos Block Party, which sees 3 million monthly blockchain transactions, positions the company as a leader in Web3 gaming. The launch of FIFA Rivals is supported by the Mythos Foundation, established to:
- Build cross-chain infrastructure.
- Develop NFT-based in-game economies.
- Promote esports participation in Web3.
Following a $37 million Series C1 funding round in 2023, Mythical Games has expanded its ecosystem to include marketplace development and new revenue streams.
