Two weeks ago, a significant exploit was discovered within Guild of Guardians ecosystem. This flaw allowed users to manipulate NFTs they did not own by transferring assets before wallet synchronization completed. Compounding the issue, reports surfaced of a tool designed to systematically abuse this vulnerability.
Such actions are fundamentally at odds with the principles of Web3 digital ownership and violate our Terms of Service. Upon confirmation of the exploit, we took swift and decisive action.
Key Measures Taken
Hotfix Implementation
A hotfix was deployed within 24 hours to eliminate the exploit and safeguard future asset integrity.
October Token Rewards Blocked
We withheld rewards from 65 accounts flagged for anomalous activity, which suggested exploitative behavior.
Temporary Suspensions and Investigations
Suspected accounts were suspended while undergoing forensic analysis of their activities, including historical behaviors and evidence of other rule violations.
Permanent Bans for Confirmed Offenders
Preliminary findings led to the permanent banning of 29 accounts that exploited high-risk assets in Endless game modes. Investigations into other competitive modes are ongoing, with conclusions expected by month’s end.
Phased Ban Rollout
The banning process is divided into three phases:
- Immediate Action: 29 accounts exploiting Endless Mode in October have been banned.
- By Nov. 22, 2024: Accounts misusing assets in Arena, Rush, and Guild Boss modes will be addressed.
- By Nov. 30, 2024: A comprehensive review will identify exploiters in all competitive modes.
