Flickplay and Bandai Namco Partner for Interactive Event
Flickplay, a platform for NFT-based characters, has teamed up with Bandai Namco Entertainment to celebrate Pac-Man’s 45th anniversary. Together, they’re launching a Pokémon Go-inspired scavenger hunt in Tokyo’s Shibuya district, set to debut in February 2025.
The event kicks off with the release of two exclusive Pac-Man digital collectible series. The first collection will only be accessible in Shibuya, the birthplace of Pac-Man in 1980, while the second series will cater to a global audience through the Flickplay store.
Exclusive Collectibles Meet Location-Based Fun
The first collection will debut during the four-day DIG Shibuya Festival, from February 8-11, 2025. Players participating in the scavenger hunt will visit over 40 designated locations in Shibuya City. By entering specified zones, fans can use Flickplay’s in-app currency, Diamonds, to unlock these limited-edition Pac-Man collectibles.
For worldwide fans, the second collectible series will provide access without the need to travel, though details remain under wraps.
Participants can purchase an Experience Pass in a pre-sale event, granting enough Diamonds to claim the Shibuya-based Pac-Man collection. Pass holders will also receive a collectible upfront and a bonus “Mystery Super Rare item.”
Advancing NFT Interoperability
Flickplay is looking to expand interoperability across blockchain networks. Currently supporting Flow, Ethereum, and Polygon, the platform is in talks with additional Ethereum layer-2 solutions.
“By 2025, we aim to make transferring digital toys between ecosystems seamless for everyday consumers,” said Pierina Merino, Flickplay’s founder and CEO.
Though Flickplay has yet to confirm the blockchain for Pac-Man NFTs, the company is actively exploring potential game integrations to offer added utility for these collectibles.
A New Frontier for Digital Collectibles
This collaboration marks a milestone for merging Web3 technologies with interactive, real-world experiences. Flickplay and Bandai Namco’s innovative approach could pave the way for similar events in the future.
